I’m in the market for a new car , with $5,000 to burn. I want a 4x4, suv, truck, muscle car, classic, etc. In other words, I’m not particular so long as it’s not boring or beige. If you had $5k to buy a daily driver from your local Craigslist, what would you buy?

I do live in a place that has snow....

I also have an ‘88 Supra, 5 speed, non-turbo. Yours for $5k, once we get the engine reinstalled (head gasket failure, head was machined, literally just have to get the time to plop it back in).

I got a ‘02 Ram 4x4 quadcab you can have for less than 5K. Everything works, but I have 3 cars and need to downsize. Rarely use it unless bad weather. Charlotte

How about this? They were real 4x4s with a low range transfer case and solid rear axle. You can get a small for cheap and with a little larger have a decent off-roader. The V6 engine isn't too bad, especially if you find a 3.8. With only a 100k miles it shouldn't be too bad of a money pit to keep running as a DD.

Or if you want a 4X4, pick up an old 4Runner, Xterra, or XJ. There should be some available in that 3-5K range. I paid $3.5K for my 2002 4X4 Xterra SE, for instance.
